Essex County
Essex County is situated on the Middle Peninsula of Virginia. This 261 square mile county is bounded on the northeast by the Rappahannock River. The county’s location on this navigable river enables easy water access to the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries and the port complex at Hampton Roads. The incorporated town of Tappahannock is the county seat and serves as the employment and population center for the community.
